The 2024 Cure Usher Ball

I always seem to be a week or two (or more!) behind when it comes to posting about events, but better late than never! Now, the famous song by Earth, Wind and Fire says “Do you remember the 21st night of September?” and I can tell you, the 21st of September is a night I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Why, I hear you ask?

The Cure Usher Ball, of course! My beautiful mum and I were lucky enough to attend the Cure Usher Ball in Newcastle and not only was it an excuse to get a little glam for a night, but it was also an all-round incredible experience with an amazing purpose – to raise awareness and vital funds for research. There was an outpouring of support from the syndrome community from businesses, families, and even a few famous faces from the soaps – countless people gave up their time and money to be there, to hear the stories shared and to boogie the night away with us.

A trio of images from the Cure Usher ball.

2. Asia, wearing a silver sequin dress and white ankle boots and holding her red-and-white cane, poses on one leg in front of a life-sized zebra statue. There are disco balls all around on the floor.

I had been in touch with Mark Jordon and Laura Norton, patrons of Cure Usher, in the months leading up to the event, and being able to finally meet two people who are absolutely working their socks off to make a difference to the Usher syndrome community was nothing short of incredible.

It was certainly a night to remember with amazing dance performances, heartfelt video stories, a live auction, and even a few celebrity guests. The grand total was announced a few weeks ago and, drumroll please…

The Cure Usher Ball raised a staggering £42,500!

My mind is blown by that number. Anyone who knows anything about me will be aware that I’m constantly harping on about how proud I am to be part of the Usher syndrome community and, with results like this, how could I not be? The ball was a huge, collaborative effort between so many wonderful people and companies who worked exceptionally hard to make it an incredible night. It was a joy to be surrounded by so many supportive people, and I can’t wait for the next one!

To every single person who made the event such a huge success…

Thank you, and congratulations!
