An Overdue Introduction!

Hey, how’s it going?

If you’ve stumbled across this website or blog post, let me take a moment to welcome you! I’d like to think that you’ve had a bit of a look around, and have sort of figured out what the situation is. If not, however, I’ll take a moment to fill you in:

My name’s Asia, and I’m twenty-five years old. I’m a full-time graphic designer, and I also happen to have Type 2A Usher syndrome. I’ll spare you any more details, but if you’re particularly curious (see also: nosy), check out my About Me page for a lovely little overview of my life from birth to diagnosis.

Starting a blog has always been on my to-do list. It’s a long list, believe me, and I’ve been procrastinating for a long time but… Here it is! The name ‘A Deafblind Graphic Designer’ came into existence because I said it in conversation once, realised it rhymed, and then couldn’t think of anything better.

This blog won’t just be about my career, and it probably won’t just be about my Usher syndrome. Chances are, it’ll be an amalgamation of tidbits about my life, which just so happens to be the life of a person with Usher syndrome. I want to share my experiences – the positive and the negative. I’m not here to sugarcoat things and pretend that I came to terms with my diagnosis years ago and have never been sad since. I’m also not going to pretend I’m some kind of medical expert, because that couldn’t be further from the truth. What I am, however, is living proof that life doesn’t have to end after an Usher syndrome diagnosis, and I want to share the highs, lows, and everything in between with all of you wonderful people.

On a slightly more serious note… It took me six years before I met – or even spoke to – anyone else with Usher syndrome. Six years of feeling like I was the only person in the world who knew what I was going through. If this blog helps even one person to feel slightly less alone in the face of a daunting diagnosis, then I’ve done my job (even if that job is just pointing you in the direction of someone more qualified than me!).

Stick around and find out what I’ll write about next. Until then, if you have any requests, concerns, or if you just fancy a chat, don’t hesitate to get in touch! I’m from Yorkshire – I’m guaranteed to be chatty!

HI, I’m asia!

I’m a twenty-six year old graphic designer from South Yorkshire with Usher syndrome Type 2A and too much sarcasm for my own good.
